If you know me at all, you know Marfa is one of my favorite places in the entire world. Only having been a handful of times, each visit brings such clarity and a sense of adventure leaving me feeling like I can accomplish anything. My husband and I like to spend our time fantasizing about the land we will own out there one day where we will build a contemporary, yet modest home that overlooks the rolling fields of the West Texas desert with the palette of the mountains in the distance.
But before I start to ramble on about this dream life, let’s talk about how we managed to find (or rather, they found us) a couple who felt the exact same way about this quirky little town and decided to bring us along on a weekend trip. Obviously we took some cool photos for their engagements, but most of the weekend was spent talking about how much we all adore this place, drinking Topo Chico and wandering up and down the 4-5 streets that make up the town – oh and also an impromptu karaoke session and finding Orion’s Belt by the fire in the backyard of our Airbnb. It was all so effortless for the situation we found ourselves in, strangers meeting in the desert. And for a photographer, the kind of connection that I always long for with every couple I work with.
So, to Madeline and Kevin – thank you for being yourselves and open to the experience. Oh and also for letting us crash on an air mattress in your Airbnb. That was also great too.
